Cancer Council

With cancer incidence predicated to increase in Australia over the next 20 years, it has never been more important to push the boundaries of cancer research.

The Biomedicine Student’s Society made a $20,000 donation to Cancer Council Victoria’s new Breakthrough Research Fund in December 2023. This amazing initiative aims to raise $25 million in funding for selected projects across three steams: postdoctoral fellowships, venture grants and grants in aid.

  • Postdoctoral fellowships: empower and foster the next generation of early-career cancer researchers.

  • Venture grants: encourage boundary-pushing ideas in the realm of cancer treatment.

  • Grants in aid: promote research into the clinical and public health aspects of cancer, .

"Thank you, Biomedicine Students' Society, for your incredible $20,000 donation to Cancer Council Victoria. Your support for the Breakthrough Research Fund will empower the next generation of cancer researchers, perhaps even one of you! It was a pleasure having your enthusiastic and passionate group in our office." – Todd Harper AM, CEO, Cancer Council Victoria

In addition, we held a Bake Sale in May 2024 as part of CC's Biggest Morning Tea initiative, with all proceeds going to 'vital cancer research, support services, prevention progams and advocacy' (from our fundraising page).
